How To Do Plantation Shutters
Follow Navigation Aid Below
|

The factory will make your plantation shutters to fit the template you provide, so please carefully follow the instructions
below.
Template Specifications:
- Must be made from heavy gauge craft or butcher paper. This can be found at most hardware stores, craft stores,
or paint stores. NO newspaper.
- Must be rolled (folded templates can not be used).
- Multiple pieces of paper may be taped together with masking tape running the entire length of seams on both sides.
There can not be any creases or bumps in the seams.
- Room side and client name need to be clearly marked on the template.
- If window has straight sides with an arch top or slant top, the template must be of entire top plus at least
10 inches down of the straight sides. If window is only a 1/2 circle, 1/4 circle, triangle, octagon or
hexagon, template must be of entire window. When in doubt, make a template of the entire window.
- Template and measurements given must coincide.
How to Make An Accurate Template:
- Tape the paper tightly over the window. There should be no wrinkles.
- Step 2 only applies if you are NOT making a template of the entire window: Make a small horizontal line at
each edge of the template - one at the left side and one at the right side. Next to each mark write, "From this
line down is exactly _____ inches to the bottom of the window opening." Fill in the blank with the appropriate
measurement.
- Cut out the exact shape of the window using a wallpaper knife (recommended), razor blade, or scissors.
- A wallpaper knife is an inexpensive knife with a razor blade that can extend 2 or 3 inches. They are available at
most hardware and paint stores.
- If using a wallpaper knife or razor blade, let the window guide the blade for a tight fit, but be careful not to cut
your wall.
- It is easiest if every 12 inches you skip a half inch and begin cutting again. This way, the template will stay
in the window and tight while you cut it. When you are done, cut the remaining 1/2 inch sections and remove the
template from the window.
- Test fit your template and adjust or remake if necessary. Your template should match your window opening.
- Mark "Room Side" on the room side of the template.
- Mark "TOP" at the top of the template.
- Put your name on the template.
- With the template, include the following measurements:
- Arch Top - With straight side legs
- Height of left side from bottom of the window to where the arch starts
- Height at middle of window
- Height of right side from bottom of the window to where the arch starts
- Width at bottom, middle, and top before arch starts
- Arch Top - No straight side legs
- Height at middle of window
- Width at bottom of window
- Stant Top - With straight side legs
- Height of left side from bottom of the window to where the slant starts
- Height of right side from bottom of the window to where the slant starts
- Width at bottom, middle, and top before slant starts
- Length of slanted top
- Stant Top - No straight side legs (triangular window)
- Height of vertical leg
- Width at bottom of window
- All Others
- Roll up the template and mail it to the factory in a mail tube or box to:
